Let’s Wait: 48-Hour Waiting Period in Wisconsin for Suicide Prevention

The state of Wisconsin recently repealed a law requiring a 48-hour waiting period for the purchase of handguns. As future health professionals, we are concerned that the lack of a waiting period will lead to an increase in gun-related suicide attempts. Concerned citizens and state representatives have called for the reinstatement of the 48 hour waiting period. Rep. Dana Wachs and a group of his assembly colleagues have introduced this bill to the State Assembly and Senate.
